Temple etiquette
Shoulders and knees covered at every temple on this itinerary. Shoes come off outside, and leather belts and bags are refused at some. Phones are banned outright at Kashi Vishwanath, Ram Janmabhoomi and Krishna Janmabhoomi — leave them in the vehicle.
A lot of walking, much of it barefoot
The ghats, the temple lanes and the Mahabodhi complex are all walked, often on stone with shoes off. The Hanuman Garhi climb is 76 steps. Bring socks you do not mind losing.
