Halal Food Options in Cherrapunji for 3-Day Trip? Budget ₹500/meal enough?

Hi everyone, I'm planning my first ever international trip, just kidding, it's Cherrapunji in Meghalaya! Very excited. I'm going with my family for 3 days from Oct 26-29. My main concern is finding good halal food options, especially for dinner. We are staying near the Seven Sisters Falls area. Will ₹500 per person per meal be enough for a decent halal meal, or should I budget more? Are there specific restaurants or areas I should look out for? Any tips from fellow travelers would be highly appreciated, thank you!

Hey! Cherrapunji is such a fun trip, you'll love it. For halal food, it's a bit different than Kolkata, but totally doable. Most of the smaller eateries and dhabas cater to a general crowd, so finding explicitly halal-certified places might be tough outside of Shillong. However, a lot of the chicken and mutton served in restaurants is often sourced from local markets where halal practices are common due to the significant Muslim population in Meghalaya. Just ask them "halal mangsho?" when you order to be sure. ₹500 per person per meal is absolutely enough for a decent meal, even a really good one. You can easily get a full thali or some great chicken curry and rice within that budget. Don't worry about needing more. Near Seven Sisters Falls, your options will be more limited to your hotel's restaurant or smaller local spots. For more variety, you might consider taking a short taxi ride towards the main Cherrapunji market area, though even there, specific named halal restaurants are rare. I'd suggest checking with your hotel first; they often know the best local spots that can accommodate. You'll find good, simple food, often with beautiful views!
