Portugal Visa-on-Arrival for Indian Passport Holders with US B1/B2 or Singapore EP - Any Loopholes for Bleisure in Lisbon?

I'm a 29yo tech professional from Bangalore, planning a bleisure trip to Lisbon, Portugal, for a conference in late October (20th-27th) and then hoping to work remotely for another week. I hold a valid US B1/B2 visa and also a Singapore Employment Pass. I've heard conflicting information about visa-on-arrival or simplified entry for Schengen countries for Indian citizens with these existing visas. Is there any 'catch' or specific condition I should be aware of? My company is based in Singapore, and I'd be looking for coworking spaces. Any personal experiences or agent recommendations for smooth processing would be super helpful!

Hey there! This sounds like such an awesome trip, Lisbon is super pretty! Okay, so about the visa stuff for Portugal – unfortunately, even with your US B1/B2 or Singapore EP, there isn't a visa-on-arrival option for Schengen countries like Portugal for Indian passports. You'll definitely need to get a Schengen visa beforehand. It's a bummer, I know! My friends and I always apply well in advance, like 3-4 months before our trip, especially if it's during a busy season like October. You'll need to go through the VFS Global center, which is the official visa application center for Portugal in India. Make sure you have all your documents perfectly in order – flight bookings, hotel reservations, conference invitation, proof of funds, travel insurance, and a no-objection certificate from your Singapore company for your bleisure part of the trip. There aren't really any 'loopholes' to skip the Schengen visa process, so just focus on getting all your documents together. Good luck with your application, and have an amazing time in Lisbon!

It's good you're looking into this early for your October trip. Unfortunately, there's no visa-on-arrival or simplified entry for Indian passport holders to Portugal, even with a valid US B1/B2 or Singapore Employment Pass. The Schengen Area, which includes Portugal, requires a specific Schengen visa for Indian citizens. My own relatives who visit Europe from the US, even with Green Cards, still need to apply for a Schengen visa if they aren't US citizens. You'll need to apply for a Schengen C-type (short-stay) visa through the VFS Global center in Bangalore. Since your company is in Singapore, you'll need to ensure all your company letters, proof of employment, and financial documents clearly state your employment status there. For your bleisure trip, mention both the conference details and your remote work plans with proof of accommodation for the full two weeks. Start the application process as soon as possible, especially since late October is a popular travel time. Aim to apply by August end at the latest. The processing time can vary, sometimes taking 2-3 weeks, and you don't want any last-minute stress.
